The Mets are planning to give ace Jacob deGrom an extra day of rest before his next start, manager Luis Rojas said on Friday.

Per Rojas, there is nothing wrong with deGrom physically. The team is simply opting to give him the extra day.

DeGrom is now expected to start on Tuesday, May 4 against the Cardinals in St. Louis instead of Monday, May 3. The Mets will have a bullpen game on Monday or perhaps call up Joey Lucchesi for the start.

DeGrom was given an extra day of rest earlier this month, when he was pushed back from his initially scheduled start of April 22 against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley FIeld to April 23 against the Washington Nationals at Citi FIeld.

Against the Nats on an extra day of rest on April 23, deGrom had arguably the best start of his career, striking out a career-high 15 batters during a two-hit shutout.

LUGO GETTING CLOSER

Reliever Seth Lugo is getting closer to a return from elbow surgery.

Lugo has started to throw from the mound, per Rojas.

He remains on track to return toward the end of May.
