Jacks find tying goal in the 3rd, Elk River wins in OT

Feb. 6—ELK RIVER — Despite scoring the tying goal midway through the third period, the Bemidji High School boys hockey team dropped a Section 8AA game against Elk River on Tuesday.

The Lumberjacks lost 2-1 in overtime on the road after Braden Hansberger scored for the Elks.

Elk River scored the game's opening goal early in the first period off the stick of Kole Mears. Joey Fankhanel evened the score 8:38 into the third period with assists from Biggs Knott and Taevon Welle.

Tate Metcalf made 21 saves for BHS, while Gavin Greniuk stopped 32 shots for the Elks.

Elk River improved to 12-9-1 and 4-3-0 in 8AA play. Bemidji fell to 8-13-1 and 5-6-0 against section opponents.
