The Jack Eichel saga in Buffalo is finally over. Eichel was dealt with a conditional third-round pick in 2023 to the Vegas Golden Knights for Peyton Krebs, Alex Tuch, a conditional first-round pick in 2022 that is top-ten protected and a second-round pick in 2023. The Sabres will get the Golden Knights first pick in 2023 if Vegas picks in the top-ten in 2022, and the 2023 picks for both Buffalo and Vegas move to 2024.

Eichel will now get artificial disk replacement surgery he wants to replace his herniated disk in his neck. The problem was that the Sabres wanted Eichel to get the more traditional surgery of spinal fusion. Since the NHL team has the final decision according to the CBA, Eichel was not in control of his preferred choice of surgery.

If the surgery works, it is a great deal for the Golden Knights who get one of the best centers in the NHL, something that has been lacking since the team came into being in 2017.

The Golden Knights will have a problem with the salary cap once Eichel returns but that is a problem for another day.
