Memphis Grizzlies' Ja Morant nominated for ESPY awards in two categories

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant has been nominated for a 2022 ESPY award.

Morant, Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman, freestyle skier Eileen Gu and Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor are all up for Best Breakthrough Athlete.

The Memphis standout was also nominated for Best Play after a monstrous poster dunk over Minnesota Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley. The other plays nominated were Megan Rapinoe's corner kick goal; Justin Tucker's 66-yard, NFL-record field goal; and Hansel Emmanuel's play of the year.

The ESPYs commemorate high achievements from over the previous year.

This past season, the Grizzlies finished 56-26. Memphis lost in the second round of the NBA playoffs after notching the franchise's first playoff series win since 2015. The Grizzlies lost to to the Golden State Warriors in six games.

Morant averaged 27.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game.

The awards will be televised from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 20, at 7 p.m. CT on ABC.
