With news of Alex Smith's clearance from his personal doctors to be able to return to football activity, there was one player, in particular, that was relieved to hear it.
Just saw that Alex Smith has been cleared for full football activity, what an incredible return.— JJ Watt (@JJWatt) July 24, 2020
Couldn't be happier to hear it, truly rooting for his success.
"Just saw that Alex Smith has been cleared for full football activity, what an incredible return. Couldn't be happier to hear it, truly rooting for his success," Watt said in the tweet.
Watt was one of the Texans involved in the sack that broke Smith's leg in the Fall 2018 matchup. The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year converged with cornerback Kareem Jackson as they tackled the Washington passer.
The impact fractured multiple bones in Smith's leg. His recovery process has been brutal just for the quarterback to have a chance to return to playing football.
Several obstacles remain for Smith to get back on the field, much less being a legitimate threat to be a starting quarterback on the roster. But several players in the NFL are certainly happy to see the veteran take a huge step forward in his recovery.
