This is hardly a surprise. After all, the former NFL MVP winner was the most notable addition to the Patriots roster over the offseason, and he's also the favorite to be the team's first starting quarterback of the post-Tom Brady era.

But it's not just Newton's talent and the anticipation of how well the Patriots offense might perform with him as the QB that's generating excitement this week. It's also the tremendous energy Newton is bringing to these practices.
Lots of players have noted the high level of energy and passion Newton is already bringing to the field. He's also not afraid to have a little fun, and that was evident when the veteran quarterback showed off some of his dance moves on Monday.
Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson is a huge fan of both the skill and energy Newton is providing the team as they prepare for the 2020 season.
"Man, I love seeing Cam, running with the ball in his hands. He's a playmaker," Jackson told reporters Wednesday in a video call. "He's a hard working kid, and he just brings a lot of value to our team.
Jackson added: "Oh yeah, he has the juice everyday. He's dancing. He's clapping guys up. I love Cam's energy. That's what we need."
Jackson, like Newton, will be facing high expectations this coming season.
The Patriots cornerback was dominant in coverage during the 2019 campaign, particularly on passes 20-plus yards down the field. He's established himself as an important part of a Patriots secondary that ranks among the league's best. If Jackson is able to develop into a legitimate star in 2020, the Patriots defense could be even better than it was last season.
