Islanders captain Anders Lee will be out indefinitely with a lower body injury, the team announced on Friday.

The Isles wouldn't disclose any other information on Lee and the injury at this time.

Lee suffered the injury during the first period of Thursday's 5-3 win over the Devils.

The captain has 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points in 27 games this season for the only team he's ever known.

The Islanders are currently at the top of the East division at 17-6-4 and are serious contenders for the Stanley Cup, but Lee's injury could put a huge damper on those aspirations if it becomes as long term as some fear it may be.
