FC Pune City striker Emiliano Alfaro is set to join ATK on a loan deal as the replacement for the injured Kalu Uche, Goal can confirm.
In order to register Iain Hume, Pune must offload one of their overseas players and so the Uruguayan forward will make way for him.
On the other hand, ATK were dealt a major blow when the Nigerian had to be substituted against Bengaluru FC with an injury to his quadriceps muscles. Head coach Steve Coppell was on the lookout for a replacement and he has zeroed down on Alfaro.
"Kalu has gone back to Barcelona. He had an extensive tear in his quadriceps muscles. It is grade three which is quite bad. He has gone to Barcelona to receive further medical treatment. He obviously leaves a big hole in our squad," revealed Coppell.
"We have requested the ISL whether we can replace him in the short team. They have said yes but that creates problems in itself because trying to find someone for a short period of time is very difficult.
"We have sent feelers out for replacements. We expect Kalu to be fit around Christmas and so we are really looking for a player to fill in," said Coppell before facing FC Pune City.
ATK have struggled in front of goal this season as they have scored only seven goals in as many outings. Uche has sporadically featured for the Kolkata-based team before his injury and without a target man up front, Coppell's side have struggled in the attacking third.
It must also be noted, however, that Alfaro has scored one goal for Pune City but has missed two penalties.
Now it remains to be seen whether Alfaro can help propel ATK's bid for a playoff spot.
