Irish drop heartbreaker in OT, fall in Elite Eight

In one of the most anticipated men’s lacrosse games to date in 2021, Notre Dame fell at home to Maryland Sunday, 14-13 in overtime.

The loss ends the year for the Irish while Maryland moves on to play in the Final Four.

Wheaton Jackoboice netted four goals for the Irish while Eric Dobson and Will Yorke each netted a pair. Pat Kavanagh was held to one goal and just two shots on goal.

Notre Dame held a 12-9 advantage with just over 12 minutes remaining but Maryland roared back, scoring four goals in less than six minutes to fall behind 13-12.

Jackoboice tied things back up for Notre Dame with 4:24 remaining in regulation as the game would go to overtime.

Maryland won the faceoff and scored the sudden-death, game-winning goal from Anthony DeMaio just 36 seconds into the extra frame.

Maryland’s undefeated season continues as the Terrapins advance to the Final Four while the Irish close the memorable 2021 campaign 8-4 overall.
