Iowa State AD looks forward to leaving Longhorn Network

We’re over a decade into the Longhorn Network but some haven’t accepted that reality. 365 Sports and Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard discussed playing on the Longhorn Network as a member of the Big 12.

Craig Smoak asked Pollard what his thoughts were on having to play on Texas’ personal network. Pollard responded, “Can’t leave soon enough.”

There is a legitimate gripe that Longhorn Network isn’t worth the purchase for non-Texas fans. It isn’t the first significant matchup Texas and Iowa State have played on the channel. Nevertheless, the Cyclones stand to lose a sizable allowance apart from the Longhorns moving forward.

To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with Pollard refusing the monetary relevance that comes with playing in the same conference as Texas. Even so, despite the brave face the league puts on, losing the Longhorns from the conference is going to hit Iowa State and others in the pocketbook.

Here’s a look at how some responded to Pollard’s statement.

Everyone agrees

Playing on the Longhorn Network as a Texas opponent is unpleasant. It gives an idea of what its like for Texas to face teams that nobody cares to watch on a weekly basis.

Hateful 8

Texas Tech wants Texas gone, and that’s fine. I wouldn’t expect the Longhorns to schedule the Red Raiders to help boost the Lubbock economy.

Tables turning?

He does have a point. The Texas anger from the lack of gratitude is silly. Texas is going to a much better situation in the SEC.

Cyclone chimes in

There’s no mention of Texas beating Iowa State by 18 points last night. Cyclones fans will get to throw horns down in a loss to Texas football next year.

Welcome to Ames

I’m not sure it matters all that much who Iowa State is playing either. There could still be plenty of Cyclone games on ESPN+.

Mercifully not on the major networks

It’s almost like they knew it wouldn’t be a close game for Iowa State. It’s a shame more people didn’t get to see the shellacking.

Reckon they like Texas' money

The Texas money still flows to Big 12 teams. We’ll have to check on the Iowa State athletic department in 2027.

They should be thankful?

Ketchum makes solid points here. It’s difficult to envision a team thankful to play on the Longhorn Network, though.

He gets it

More than a few Texas fans don’t get excited about playing on the Longhorn Network. Longhorns fans will see more nationally televised games in their new conference. If for nothing else, they’ll have a worthy opponent.
