Insider hints Duke could offer five-star UNC basketball target
North Carolina currently sits atop the 2024 basketball recruiting rankings here in May, holding a four-man class that features three five-star recruits.
While there’s a chance at least one of those recruits could reclassify to the 2023 cycle, UNC is still in pursuit of a few recruits in the 2024 class. That includes five-star guard Boogie Fland.
The White Plains, New York product is among the top players in the 2024 class and has a total of 22 offers in his recruitment. He’s taken two visits so far, including one to UNC back in September. Fland has more visits planned and there’s no rush on a decision.
However, one recruiting analyst believes an offer from another blue blood program could impact things. Rob Cassidy of Rivals wrote on Fland’s recruitment and had this to say:
Fland’s recruitment has been kept somewhat close to the vest since its start, but the picture is starting to clear now. Kentucky, St. John’s, UConn, Michigan and Alabama feel like teams to watch. A Duke offer is possible down the road and has the potential to impact things.
In the quote above, Cassidy does not mention UNC as a team to watch which is significant. He also mentions a Duke offer is ‘possible’ down the road which doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to happen.
The thing about recruiting is that anything can really happen and there’s a long ways to go in that 2024 cycle.
