Inola's Adkins sets 3 powerlifting state records

Mar. 5—Inola senior Jaycee Adkins returned home Monday as both a repeat state champion in powerlifting and a holder of three state records.

Adkins won the Oklahoma Girls Powerlifting Coaches Association state championship at the Choctaw Event Center in Durant in the 165-lbs class for a second year in a row, setting new state records in the squat (365 lbs), deadlift (370 lbs) and total weight (900 lbs) categories.

Adkins' marks in deadlift and total weight bested her previous state records of 350 and 820 lbs in those events, respectively, while her squat numbers shattered the previous record of 340 by a significant margin. Even her 165-lbs mark in the bench broke the previous state record of 155 lbs, but Summer Renegar of Bridge Creek walked away with the new top mark with a weight of 175 lbs.

Adkins' total weight of 900 lbs topped second-place finisher Albaney Pritchard of Bristow by a whopping 115 lbs. Pritchard's second-best mark in the squat came in 35 lbs behind Adkins, who also bested Hollis' Kayden Arballo by 35 lbs in the deadlift.

Adkins is a senior at Inola High School who is involved in cross country and long-distance track events in addition to powerlifting.
