Injury update: Kayvon Thibodeaux day-to-day; Dru Mathis out for OSU

It’s the million-dollar question everyone wants to know as leading up to the Oregon-Ohio State contest on Saturday. Will Kayvon Thibodeaux be available and play against the Buckeyes?

In Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal’s weekly press conference, he said the Ducks’ star defender was day-to-day and that he’ll know the answer to that question Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thibodeaux sprained his ankle on Saturday late in the first quarter against Fresno State when a teammate rolled up on it accidentally after the play was over. Thibodeaux managed to get taped up and gave it a go for one series in the second quarter, but his usual explosiveness off the snap just wasn’t there, so the Oregon training staff decided to shut him down for the rest of the day.

In order for the Ducks to have a shot of the upset over the No. 4 Buckeyes, the Ducks will need Thibodeaux on the field and playing close to 100 percent.

Cristobal also announced linebacker Dru Mathis will definitely miss the game in Columbus and they’ll go from there. He said that he hopes Mathis won’t have to miss a lot of time, but when the injury to his leg occurred, Oregon was fearful of the worst for the 6-foot-3 senior.
