Injured Coyotes star Clayton Keller unlikely to return for Tuesday’s road game in Montreal

The Arizona Coyotes will have to go without forward Clayton Keller when they face the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.

Keller, the team's leading scorer, exited the second period of Sunday’s 4-3 overtime loss against the Winnipeg Jets with an apparent upper-body injury.

Head coach André Tourigny remained tight-lipped on the severity of the injury but said during Monday's practice in Montreal that Keller will miss the second game of the five-game road trip.

"It will take a few days ... but not tomorrow," Tourigny said.

The 25-year-old forward has been pacing the Coyotes with 22 goals, 30 assists and 52 points in 57 games.

"Obviously (Keller) is an important player, but the way the guys reacted, they didn't lose a beat," Tourigny said after Sunday's loss. "When (Keller) went down, we had the momentum and we kept the momentum."

His absence is not a promising sign for the reeling Coyotes (23-29-5), who are on a 12-game losing streak. The Canadiens (22-28-8) have also been struggling lately, and have lost their past five games.

The Coyotes-Canadiens game is at 5 p.m. and will be shown on Channel 61.1.
