Ingham County man wins Michigan Lottery jackpot

LANSING — A 51-year-old Ingham County man won more than half a million dollars in a monthly state lottery drawing last month.

The man, who Michigan Lottery officials aren't naming because he chose to remain anonymous, was selected for the “Monthly Jackpot Progressive Prize” of $625,162 in a random drawing on April 12, according to a news release from the Michigan Lottery.

He earned entries into the giveaway by playing eligible games, lottery officials said, but didn't initially answer the call when lottery staff called to inform him of his winnings because he didn't recognize the phone number.

"When I called the Lottery back and was told I had won a $625,162 Monthly Jackpot Progressive prize, I was in awe," he said. "Although I always hoped I would win, I never thought I actually would, so it is an incredible feeling."

The man plans to use the money to pay bills and save for retirement, officials said.

The Monthly Jackpot Progressive game was launched in April 2022. Lottery players have won more than $2.6 million in it since, said the release.
