Influencer with 1.6M TikTok followers loses memory following horseback riding accident, doesn't understand why strangers are sending her fan mail

A 27-year-old influencer with over 1.6 million TikTok followers has no memory of the past seven years of her life following a horseback riding accident at her Arizona ranch.

Emmie Sperandeo, a popular content creator known for documenting her Western lifestyle, was injured on May 15 after the horse she was riding fell on top of her. According to the family’s GoFundMe campaign for her hospital bills, Sperandeo was immediately airlifted to a nearby trauma center.

Only a month prior, Sperandeo had suffered a concussion and broken finger after being thrown from a bucking horse.

On May 19, the family reported that Sperandeo was stable and starting to regain consciousness for periods of time. Three days later, the family published an update that said Sperandeo was being moved from the ICU to a neurological ward where she’d undergo speech and physical therapy.

“She’s able to read your sweet letters and kind words, but still is unable to comprehend why she’s here, or why people are writing to her,” the family wrote.

Sperandeo’s dad told local CBS affiliate Arizona’s Family that all she could remember were memories from seven to 14 years ago. The family also expressed concern that because Sperandeo had been dropped from her parents’ insurance less than a year prior, they weren’t sure what her insurance situation was — hence the GoFundMe.

Sperandeo posted her last TikTok video on the same day as her accident and it documented a day in her life on the ranch, starting at 4 a.m.

Comments flooded in with good wishes for her recovery.

“absolutely sick to my stomach after just hearing about your accident,” one person wrote. “we need you to pull through this.”

“Emmie I think of you every day and hope you’re okay. I don’t have words I’m just so sad for you. I know you’ll get through, no doubt in my mind,” another said.

The latest GoFundMe update, from May 25, reminded followers that “no news is good news.”

“Please know she’s surrounded by our mom, Danielle, myself (and her stuffed animals),” Sperandeo’s sister Natalie wrote. “Little pieces of her sparkle are coming back.”

As of reporting, the GoFundMe has reached $200,925 of its $250,000 goal from over 6,000 donations.

“She’s going to need months of rehabilitation in a full time care unit, which is going to be unfathomably expensive, not to mention her inability to create any income during this time, as well as cover animal care expenses,” Natalie wrote in an earlier update. “Whether that dollar amount is reached or not, we cannot tell you how much your outpouring of love, support, prayers, are absolutely invaluable to not only Emmie, but Emmie’s animals, and also our family.”
