Sara Carbonero, the wife of FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas, announced she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer Tuesday, less than three weeks after her husband suffered a heart attack during training.

Carbonero, a Spanish TV presenter, shared the news on Instagram. She said she already had surgery for a malignant ovarian tumor.

Her post, as transcribed from Spanish by ESPN:

"When we had not yet recovered from a scare, life has surprised us again. This time it has touched me, that damned six letter word that I still have trouble writing.

"A few days ago, in a regular checkup, doctors found a malignant ovarian tumor and I have already had surgery. Everything has gone very well. Fortunately, we have caught it in time but I still have a few months of struggle while I continue the necessary treatment.

"I am calm and confident that everything will turn out well. I know that the road will be hard but also that it will have a happy ending. I count on the support of my family and friends and a great medical team."

Casillas, who turned 38 on Monday, was rushed to the hospital from training with FC Porto on May 1. The 2010 World Cup winner with Spain later shared a photo from the hospital calling it “a big scare, but strong as ever.” Carbonero, 35, shared a photo of her husband on Instagram two weeks ago with a caption about being blessed.

He will not play again this season for FC Porto as he recovers and insisted in a tweet last week he has not decided to retire yet.

The two are parents to two boys ages 2 and 5.
