The No. 1 women's tennis player is dealing with an injury weeks before Wimbledon. Iga Swiatek pulled out of the German Open on Friday due to shoulder discomfort.
Swiatek, 21, announced the news on Twitter. Swiatek will rest the injury now "in order to be ready for Wimbeldon."
The news comes less than a week after Swiatek won the French Open. Swiatek dominated at the tournament, dropping just one set on her road to victory. With her win over Coco Gauff in the final, Swiatek extended her win streak to 35 straight matches.
Swiatek will have a few weeks to rest before taking part in Wimbledon, which begins June 27. If Swiatek went deep into the German Open — which is scheduled for June 11 through June 19 — she may have only had a week to rest her shoulder before Wimbledon.
Swiatek will be considered one of the favorites if she's able to return in time for Wimbledon. She's never won the event, making it as far as the fourth round in 2021.
