IEM Oakland 2016 League of Legends and CS:GO results

This weekend saw ESL host IEM Oakland 2016 at the Oracle Arena for the first time, and some of the best teams from around the world were invited to compete in the League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments.

European team Unicorns of Love took out the League of Legends tournament 3-2 in a best-of-five series.

Unicorns of Love walks away with $50,000 for first place. The victory marks a big win for the team after they only just missed out on making the 2016 EU LCS Regional Qualifiers in September, dominating throughout the bracket but falling to fellow EU team Splyce.

Flashwolves gets $20,000 for second place. IEM Oakland was also the first time we saw the team’s new lineup in action, with Lu “Double Red” Yuhung taking the role of AD carry for the tournament and Yau “MMD” Li-Hung and Shen “Rins” Boru sharing the Top Lane role.

In the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament, it was a clash of the EU titans SK Gaming and Ninjas in Pyjamas at the grand final. Swedish team Ninjas in Pyjamas took out first place, going 2-1 in a best-of-three series.

SK Gaming took out the first game on Train with a decisive 16-4, but NIP fought back on Cache to clinch a 16-14 win. The final game went to NIP, who secured victory with a nail biting 16-14 win on Cobblestone. The win netted the team $128,000 for first place.

IEM Oakland ran November 19-20 at the Oracle Arena, making it the first esports event to be hosted at the venue. It is the second event in Season 11 and will be closely followed by IEM Gyeonggi on December 16-18. IEM Gyeonggi will feature League of Legends and StarCraft II tournaments.
