ICYMI in Mets Land: Pete Alonso continues power surge, Gary Sanchez being called up
Here's what happened in Mets Land on Thursday in case you missed it...
- Have yourself a series, Pete Alonso! The Mets' slugging first baseman had just three hits against Tampa Bay, but all went for home runs, including a 446-foot solo shot in Thursday's 3-2 win.
- After the game, Alonso spoke about staying hot while playing through a cold, “Whatever I have in the tank, I spend it.”
- On the bump, RHP Tylor Megill got his first quality start of the season, allowing just two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four over six innings. Megill broke down the new version of his slider after lowering his ERA on the year to 3.88.
- SNY contributor John Harper writes about how the Mets showed an energy they can build on by taking two out of three from Tampa Bay (32-13). A win and series that reliever David Robertson called "a big" one for the Mets (22-23).
- And another bat is on the way as SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino reported former All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez is being called up. Martino also looked at the how the potential log jam at catcher might work out and how Sanchez might fit in with Francisco Alvarez, Omar Narvaez, and Tomas Nido.
- After Mark Vientos' call-up, The Mets Pod gang examined if Ronny Mauricio had made a case that he was ready for a promotion, too.
- On SportsNite, Eamon McAnaney, John Jastremski, and Chris Lopresti discussed Alonso's recent power surge and the Mets' sudden momentum swing.
- The Baseball Night in NY crew asked the tough question: Can they now sustain this success?
