Here's what happened Friday in Mets Land, in case you missed it...
RHP Max Scherzer threw a seven-inning, one-run three-hitter -- rebounding from last week's 10-hit, 3-2 loss at the Philadelphia Phillies -- but RHP Drew Smith's scoreless streak snapped in a series-opening 2-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners.
After the game, Mets manager Buck Showalter explained how baseballs not carrying has been "a challenge" throughout MLB -- 2B Jeff McNeil and 1B Pete Alonso both hit balls that ended up as loud outs.
Before the game, the Mets placed C James McCann on the 10-day IL with a fractured left hamate. Showalter addressed the potential timeline for McCann to return.
Also prior to the series' start, the Mariners sent down former Mets prospect Jarred Kelenic.
With a change in the Mets' offensive approach, MLB analysts broke down to SNY's John Harper New York's contact-heavy philosophy and whether or not it is sustainable.
RHP Kumar Rocker -- the Mets' No. 10 overall pick in the first round of the 2021 MLB Draft, whom New York ultimately did not sign -- inked an independent deal with the Frontier League's Tri-City Valleycats and looks to enter the 2022 MLB Draft.
In an all-new episode of The Mets Pod, co-hosts Connor Rogers and Joe DeMayo weighed whether or not the Mets would think about trading for another catcher.
Former Mets 2B Robinson Cano signed a major-league contract with the San Diego Padres.
