Cubs announce spring training home opener lineup vs. Royals originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Cubs roll out a staunch top of the batting order for their Cactus League home opener Tuesday against the Royals at Sloan Park.
The Cubs announced their lineup Tuesday morning, with Ian Happ reclaiming his leadoff spot, this time as the designated hitter. He makes his first spring training appearance after recovering from a “stomach bug” recently, according to Cubs manager David Ross.
Happ is followed in the batting order by second baseman Nico Hoerner, right fielder Jason Heyward and third baseman Kris Bryant.
Replacing first baseman Anthony Rizzo, shortstop Javier Báez, catcher Willson Contreras and left fielder Joc Pederson – who all started the Cubs’ spring training opener against the Padres Monday – are Patrick Wisdom, Ildemaro Vargas, Austin Romine and Nick Martini. Non-roster invite Rafael Ortega also makes the starting lineup in the outfield.
Adbert Alzolay takes the mound against the Royals, with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 CST. Right-hander Zach Davies is scheduled to start against the Mariners on Wednesday.
