Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady knows you think he sucks. Brady showed a willingness to poke fun at himself Thursday, reading out his mean tweets on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Brady read out 11 tweets in total. Some were mean, some were profane and some weirdly offered up grudging respect to Brady before wishing he broke both his legs.

Some of the tweets went a little too far — don’t involve someone’s pet, c’mon — but credit is due to the person who wanted Brady dropped in a vat of bacon fat. At least that one was original. Even Brady seemed to enjoy it.

Brady is far from the first athlete to read his mean tweets, but it’s nice to see him poke fun at himself. Brady isn’t necessarily immune to that. His Twitter feed is actually amusing. But between his extremely rigid diet and yelling at a teammate for crying, he can come off as a guy who takes some things way too seriously.

Tom Brady looking to add to legacy at Super Bowl LIV

Brady is already considered one of the greatest — if not the greatest — quarterbacks of all time, so it’s tough to imagine he can add to his legacy even more. But this Super Bowl is actually pretty significant for Brady.

If he can win, he would not only be able to boast about beating Patrick Mahomes, he would also be able to separate himself from New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. That doesn’t matter in the long run, as Brady is getting into the Hall of Fame no matter what, but fans won’t be able to send mean tweets to Brady saying he was only successful due to Belichick.
