Husker soccer suffers first loss of the season to St. Louis
The No. 24 Nebraska soccer team concluded the weekend with a showdown against St. Louis. The undefeated Huskers were looking to snap a two-match losing streak to the Billikens. However, Nebraska couldn’t snap the streak and instead suffered its first loss of the season by a score of 3-2.
Scoring leader Eleanor Dale landed the two goals for the Huskers, pushing her season total to 12. Both of Dale’s goals came following a scoreless first half. Nebraska got on the board first just 11 minutes into the second half before St. Louis jumped ahead 2-1. Dale scored her second goal with less than 15 minutes remaining in the match. But the Billikens scored the game-winner with less than three minutes to go.
Both teams tied in shooting, each finishing with 16 in total. But it was keeper Emily Puricelli who came through for St. Louis. Puricelli finished the match with nine saves. Sami Hauk, meanwhile, for Nebraska, finished with five saves in the game.
The Huskers fall to 6-1-1 on the season with the loss as they enter their conference portion of the season. Nebraska remains home and faces off against Wisconsin on Friday. The match is set for 7:05 p.m. and can be viewed on B1G+.
