The Iron Skillet is staying Fort Worth for the sixth straight year as TCU took down SMU 56-36 in what coach Patterson described as the Mustangs “Super Bowl.” SMU brought their “A” game while the Frogs struggled to get things going early. In the end, TCU made enough plays to earn a win. Here are five plays that helped the Frogs finish on top.

Kenedy Snell knows how to find the end zone

After SMU scored on their opening possession, TCU answered with a score of their own. Freshman, Kenedy Snell scored on a 10-yard run to put the Frogs up 7-6 on the Mustangs.

Kenny Hill finds Shaun Nixon

The Horned Frogs found themselves trailing 19-7 midway through the second quarter. Kenny Hill then found Shaun Nixon for a 11-yard touchdown pass. The touchdown created a spark for TCU, as the offense had struggled following their opening possession.

Kenedy Snell is fast… like really fast

With under three minutes until halftime, Kenedy Snell caught a four-yard pass from Kenny Hill and then proceeded to burn the entire SMU secondary. Snell finished the game with both a rushing and receiving touchdown.

Reagor earns his first collegiate touchdown

In the final three seconds of the half, TCU attempted a Hail Mary. Hill fired a 38-yard pass into a crowd of red and white jerseys with freshman Jalen Reagor hauling in the ball. The touchdown gave TCU a 28-22 lead at halftime.

Another home game, another defensive touchdown

Midway through the fourth quarter, linebacker Travin Howard intercepted SMU quarterback Ben Hicks, and returned it 19 yards to put the Frogs up 56-29. Howard’s pick-six ended any hopes the Mustangs had at mounting a comeback.

Head coach Gary Patterson said overall the team didn’t play well and can’t afford a similar performance against Oklahoma State. If TCU has a slow start next weekend, the Frogs will likely leave Stillwater with their first loss of the season.
