As we all wait to hear further news of the condition of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, there are many fans and observers who are doing all they can to do good work in the young man’s name.
Hamlin collapsed in the first quarter of Monday night’s game between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals after a tackle attempt on Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. CPR was administered on the field, and Hamlin was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, a level-one trauma facility. The NFL postponed the game, and revealed in a statement that Hamlin was in critical condition at the time of the statement.
Recently, Jordon Rooney, Hamlin’s friend and marketing representative provided an update.
Hamlin, a 24-year-old Pitt alum, was selected in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. He had been the Bills’ starting safety through most of the season. Even before he was establishing his NFL career, Hamlin also wanted to do good things for others. So, he established The Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive as a GoFundMe in 2020, with an original fundraising goal of $2,500.
Since Hamlin’s injury, the toy drive has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, thanks to fans and observers who just want Hamlin to know that he’s in their thoughts.
