Texans owner Cal McNair reaching out to Deshaun Watson after frustrations, GM Nick Caseiro hiring

Deshaun Watson is apparently upset with the Houston Texans’ front office and owner Cal McNair over the hiring of new general manager Nick Caserio — particularly with the process of that hiring.

Though McNair said he hasn’t spoken with Watson yet, he is hoping to have that conversation soon.

"I've come to understand that it's been reported that Deshaun feels left out of the process, but he and I had several visits and I understood his point of view before meeting with candidates," McNair said Friday, via ESPN. "I've reached out to Deshaun about Nick's hire, and I look forward to him getting back to me when he returns from his vacation."

Watson ‘extremely unhappy’ with Texans, McNair

Watson, who just finished his fourth season with the Texans, has reportedly been ignoring calls from management in recent days.

The issue, apparently, is that McNair had told Watson that he would be consulted in the hiring process for both a new head coach and general manager. Yet when Caseiro was hired this week, Watson was reportedly not consulted at all.

Watson, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, isn’t mad at Caseiro, but simply McNair and the current front office.

He is also reportedly upset because McNair didn’t request to interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

Watson, following their 4-12 season, has called for a complete “culture shift” in Houston. The 25-year-old, however, just signed a four-year, $156 million extension with the organization — which means the team would have to trade him, something Caseiro doesn’t sound like he wants to do.

Watson, Caseiro said, is “our quarterback.”

"Once we have an opportunity to spend some time together, we'll further our discussion," Caserio said, via ESPN. "Can't tell you how much respect and admiration that I have for him for who he is as a player and what he means to this franchise."
