Houston has yet another incoming graduate transfer.

Former Notre Dame cornerback Nick Watkins said Thursday that he was heading to Houston. Watkins will likely compete for a starting cornerback position for the Cougars. He had 26 tackles and an interception for Notre Dame in 2017. Since he’s a graduate transfer he’s immediately eligible.

Second transfer this week

Watkins’ arrival comes days after it was reported former Baylor running back Terence Williams would be joining the team. Williams is a graduate transfer as well and rushed for over 1,800 yards in his three seasons at Baylor. Two years ago as a sophomore, Williams rushed for over 1,000 yards.

The team also officially announced the addition of Quinten Dormady recently. The former Tennessee quarterback said in April that he was heading to Houston. Dormady opened the 2017 season as Tennessee’s starting quarterback.

Other additions

Utah wide receiver Raelon Singleton is also on the team in 2018 as a graduate transfer. Singleton had 36 catches for 531 yards and four touchdowns in 2017. He was Utah’s second-leading receiver.

Linebacker Darrion Owens has joined the team too. He had 35 tackles in 2017 while playing for Miami. Like Watkins, he could compete for a starting job with the Cougars.

The biggest defensive addition may not be a graduate transfer, but a transfer from Ole Miss. Safety Deontay Anderson, who started as a freshman in 2016, Anderson was the top safety recruit in the class of 2016 and sat out the 2017 season as Ole Miss was playing under a self-imposed bowl ban. Anderson is immediately eligible because all transfers from Ole Miss who have applied to do so are able to play immediately.
