Tennessee sophomore pitcher Hollis Fanning started Saturday for the Walnut Creek Crawdads of the California Collegiate League.

Fanning pitched eight innings, totaling 98 pitches with 73 strikes, against the Arroyo Seco Saints. He recorded five strikeouts, while surrendering three earned runs, one walk and nine hits, in Walnut Creek’s 5-4 victory.

Fanning appeared in five games for the Vols during the 2022 season.

He made his first career start against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 22 before the contest was canceled due to rain. The Vols led Tennessee Tech, 5-4, in the top of the fifth inning with two outs before the contest was postponed and later canceled.

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound Hollis is blind in his left eye. He came to the Vols from Tullahoma High School in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
