Hockey roundup: Windom makes it 3 straight over MBA Storm

Jan. 30—BENSON — Windom secured a season-series sweep of the Morris/Benson Area girls hockey team with an overtime win at Benson Civic Center.

The Eagles, who won all three matchups, got their game-winning goal from Reagan Haugen to defeat the Storm, 3-2. Windom is 10-12-1 and MBA is 7-15-0.

Despite out-shooting Windom 36-24, the Storm found themselves playing from behind as they never held a lead.

The Storm's Karlie Bruns knotted the game at 1-1, scoring a short-handed goal 13 minutes, 4 seconds into the first period. Windom's Mataya Hall opened the scoring at 3:26 of the contest.

Windom's Madyson Fredin had the lone goal of the second period before MBA answered 10 seconds into the third period, getting a goal from Sadie Koehler to make it 2-2.

Bruns, a senior, has 45 goals and eight assists in 22 games. She has scored at least one goal in each of her last eight contests.

For Koehler, it marked her second goal of the season. Her nine assists gives her 11 points in 21 games.

MBA plays host to Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato at 7 p.m. Thursday back at Benson Civic Center.

Chloe Lownsbury's overtime tally secured a third-place Central Lakes Conference finish for the Cardinals at Willmar Civic Center Arena.

Willmar overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat the Storm'N Sabres. Brooke Pogatchnik and Cameron Lane scored Sartell/Sauk Rapids' goals.

Avery Quinn started the Cardinals' comeback. She scored at 12 minutes, 46 seconds of the second period. Hannah Bredesen and Avery Olson had the assists.

At 12:58 of the third period, Quinn assisted on an Olson goal to knot the game at 2-2.

The Cardinals out-shot Sartell 30-12 and Erin Eilers made 10 saves to improve her record to 17-7-0 between the pipes.

Willmar next plays St. Cloud at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Municipal Athletic Center.

The Wildcats improved to 9-15-0 overall with a victory against River Lakes at Chisago Lakes Arena in Lindstrom.

River Lakes (12-8-4) next plays Sartell/Sauk Rapids at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Bernick's Arena in Sartell.

Zach Wrobleski's two-goal second period, which included a short-handed game-winning goal, helped Morris/Benson Area storm past Wadena-Deer Creek at the Lee Community Center in Morris.

Logan Hadfield, Charlie Goff and Tucker Blume also found the back of the net for MBA.

Gavin Schmidt made 22 saves between the pipes for the Storm. He has a 4-4-0 overall record.

MBA next plays Northern Lakes at 7 p.m. Thursday at Breezy Point Sports Center.

Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato's winless streak dropped to eight games following a Wright County Conference loss to Mound-Westonka at the David M. Thaler Sports Center in Mound.

The Dragons are now 3-16-1 overall while the White Hawks are 9-10-1 overall.

Litchfield/D-C next plays host to Minnesota River at 7 p.m. Friday at Litchfield Civic Arena.

River Lakes 8,Sauk Rapids 2The Stars picked up a victory against Sauk Rapids, a fellow Section 5A team, at Sports Arena East in Sauk Rapids.

River Lakes (9-9-2) next plays Breckenridge/Wahpeton at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ella Stern & Harry Stern Sports Arena in Wahpeton, North Dakota.
