Hillsdale golf takes third at regionals, qualifies for state finals

The Hillsdale and Jonesville boys golf teams traveled to the Medalist Golf Course in Marshall, Michigan for the D3 Regional 15 championship on Wednesday, May 31. The Hillsdale boys golf team finished third in the team scores, qualifying them as a team for the D3 team state finals.

The two teams had recently competed at the Medalist at the John Matthew Krutsch Invitational. Hillsdale had a final team score of 376 in that invitational. The Hornets improved their team score at regionals with a final score of 364. Dowagiac took first place, winning the regional title with a final team score of 347. Olivet took second with a final score of 360. Jonesville took sixth place with a final score of 385.

Hillsdale junior Joseph Miller finished in second place as an individual golfer with a final score of 83. Olivet senior Dawson Redfield won with a final score of 82. Miller was just one stroke away for tying for an individual regional title. Miller had nine pars on the day.

Jonesville junior Zachary Mains led the Comets as an individual after tying for fifth overall. The fifth-place finish qualified the junior for the Division 3 state finals. Mains had a final score of 85. He had four pars on the day and also had a birdie on a par-three hole 17.

Hillsdale senior Jack Granata had a final score of 91. The senior Hornet had three pars and two birdies over 18 holes. Hornet junior Jaden Hall had a final score of 94, sinking one par on hole one. Hornet senior Grant Alley had a final score of 96, earning four pars. Senior Brody Young had a final score total of a 99 and had three pars.

The Jonesville Comet boys golf team graduates three seniors. Senior Brennen Mains had a final score of 95. The senior had three pars on the front-nine. Senior Collin Laney had a final score of 104. Laney had one par on the front-nine and two pars on the back-nine. Senior Carter Lucas had a final score of 105. Lucas had two pars on the back-nine and two pars on the front-nine. Junior Carter Baker had a final score of 101, earning three total pars on the day. The Comets were the Big 8 champions this season.

Hornet head coach Marc Wilson and the Hillsdale golf team will head to East Lansing for the Division 3 finals. Comet junior Zachary Mains will represent the Comets as an individual at the finals. The finals will be played over two days, starting on Friday, June 9. The finals will feature 18 holes on each day of competition, starting around 9:00 a.m. The event takes place at the Forest Akers West Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State University. Tickets must be purchased in advance for this event and the other state finals.
