Highland cross country star Torrecillas wins sweepstakes race at Mt. SAC, commits to New Mexico,
Oct. 25—It's been a big couple of days for Highland senior Mia Torrecillas.
On Saturday she won the Division 1-2 Sweepstakes Green race at the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational in Walnut and then on Tuesday night she accepted a scholarship to run at the University of New Mexico, one of the top women's cross country programs in the country.
Torrecillas finished with a personal-best of 17.92 at the 2.93-mile distance, finishing 4 seconds ahead of second-place Gweneth Williams of El Toro. Liberty senior Nicole Bridges was 12th with a 18.46.
Torrecillas has won seven of the nine races she has competed in this season.
