High school volleyball: Lake Catholic, Gilmour top first state poll

Sep. 12—In the first iteration of the OHSVCA coaches poll, two News-Herald coverage area powers find themselves among the top of the heap.

Lake Catholic starts the poll season at the top of the Division III standings as it looks for a second state championship. The Cougars earned 432 total points to go with 34 first-place votes.

The Cougars also debut at 22nd in the USA Today poll as well that also debuted Sept. 11.

Gilmour debuts in the poll in second for D-II and garnered 10 first-place votes. The only team ahead of the Lancers is Mercy McAuley of Cincinnati, which sits at 6-1 on the year.

The Lancers are 7-5 on the season and look to get back in the win column when they host St. Joseph Academy on Sept. 12.
