High school tennis roundup: Creek teams down Northwest, Murray

Coahulla sweeps Northwest, Murray County

Coahulla Creek opened its season with a pair of sweeps, defeating both Northwest Whitfield and Murray County by scores of 5-0. Creek beat Northwest Tuesday and Murray on Thursday.

Against Northwest, Preston Green (6-3, 7-6), Logan Parton (2-6, 7-5, 10-5) and Ben Giles (6-7, 6-3, 10-8) got singles wins, despite both Parton and Giles going to a tiebreaker.

Jackson Thomas and Brayden Barbre picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win in doubles. Alex Andrews and Anderson Griggs capped off the sweep with a win in the second doubles line despite Northwest again forcing a tiebreaker. Andrews and Griggs won 6-3 on the first, fell 5-7 on the second, and won the tiebreaker 10-4.

Against Murray County, the Colts picked up the sweet without any tiebreaker drama. Green (6-3, 6-0), Parton (6-0, 6-0) and Giles (6-0, 6-0) won in singles, and Thomas and Barbre (6-0, 6-0) and Andrews and Griggs (6-1, 6-4) both came through in doubles.

Bruins down LFO

After falling to Coahulla Creek, Northwest bounced back with a victory over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Thursday.

Only two singles lines were played, with the rest forfeited by LFO. Luke Gazaway won 6-1, 6-2 in the first line, and Jake Cummings picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the second.

Dalton falls to Rome

Dalton dropped its season opener 4-1 to Rome on Tuesday.

The lone Catamount win came in the second doubles line, as the pairing of Silas Owens and Jay Zhou grabbed a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory.


Creek downs Northwest, Murray

Coahulla Creek took down Northwest Whitfield 4-1 on Tuesday and beat Murray County 4-1 on Thursday.

Camryn Parker (6-2, 6-0) and EJ Carrier (6-1, 6-1) were winners in singles for Creek against Northwest. Lily Lowe and Ava Howell (6-4, 6-1) won in the first doubles line, and Chelsea Hensley and Cadence Tuck (6-4, 6-4) took the second.

Against Murray, Carrier (6-2, 6-2), Kylie Lyttle (6-0, 6-3) and Mallory Priest (6-0, 4-6, 6-4) won in singles for Creek. Lowe and Howell (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) won in doubles.

Lady Bruins bounce back from Coahulla loss to defeat LFO

After falling to Coahulla Creek on Tuesday, Northwest swept Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 5-0 on Thursday.

Isabella Griffin (7-5, 6-2), Rachel Edwards (6-2, 6-1) and Mackenzie Lewallen (6-2, 6-0) each earned singles wins. Holly Jackson and Ivy Turner (6-0, 6-2) won the first doubles line, and Morgan Redmond and Kayli Everett (6-0, 6-0) took the second.

Dalton defeats Rome

Dalton opened its season Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over Rome.

Annabelle Rollins picked up a singles win for Dalton, winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Both Dalton doubles lines got a victory. Faith Manis and Jocelyn Pacheco earned a 6-2, 6-3 win, and Leah Cagle and Sydney Presley won 6-1, 6-0.
