High school softball: Tippecanoe Valley claims sectional title, New Prairie up next
The New Prairie softball team will get to face Tippecanoe Valley in a Class 3A regional Tuesday night.
Valley topped Rensselaer Central 6-2 Saturday to win the Class 3A Kankakee Valley Sectional title.

The Vikings (16-6) will play at No. 3 New Prairie (27-5), which beat Jimtown 10-0 Friday to win the Jimtown Sectional crown, at 6 p.m. ET Tuesday night in New Carlisle. The winner advances to the Class 3A semistate at Twin Lakes on Saturday.
Valley trailed 1-0 Saturday before Madi Smith smacked a two run homer to give her team the lead for good. Smith added a pair of sacrifice flies for the winners. Dalynne Bussard added a two-run single for the champions.
It was Valley's first sectional title since 1992.
In other area sectional finals Saturday, Fremont beat Elkhart Christian Academy 13-11 in the Class 1A Lakewood Park Christian Sectional and Hebron blanked Wheeler 10-0 in the Class 2A South Central Sectional.
Fremont (11-12) hosts Caston (19-4) and Hebron (25-2) plays at Andrean (27-5) in regional action Tuesday night.
