High school soccer roundup: Dalton ends 31-game unbeaten streak for defending 4A champ Johnson

Feb. 23—Boys Dalton 2, Johnson 1

Defending Class 5A champion Dalton (5-1) ended a 31-game unbeaten streak for defending Class 4A champs Johnson (3-1-1) Friday night at the Hall vs. Whitfield Futbol Classic hosted by Johnson in Gainesville. Dalton upended Johnson 2-1. East Hall also hosted Northwest Whitfield at the event.

Johnson had gone 30-0-1 in its last 31 games before the Catamounts came to town. One of those wins was a 1-0 defeat of Dalton last season.

Johnson got on the board first Friday and led 1-0 at half, but Dalton got on the board just after halftime, when Darwin Peinado scored a goal assisted by Salvador Martinez. Alan Barragan hit the game-winning goal off an assist from David Saldana to lift the Catamounts to the 2-1 win. Cristian Sanchez made late saves in goal to help Dalton secure the win.

Dalton plays Northwest Whitfield at home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Dalton Academy 9, Christian Heritage 0

Dalton Academy (4-1) shut down Christian Heritage (1-3) 9-0 Friday night.

Dani Perez and Joe Gonzalez each put in three goals for Dalton Academy. Andy Reynoso, Andy Hernández and Geovanny Nolasco all scored one. Gonzalez also tallied three assists to go with his goals. Christian Cruz had two, and Reynoso and Perez each had one.

Dalton Academy is at Darlington at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Christian Heritage plays at Atlanta Classical on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

East Hall 2, Northwest Whitfield 1

Northwest Whitfield (2-1-2) fell 2-1 Friday to East Hall (4-1) at the Hall vs. Whitfield Futbol Classic hosted by Johnson High School in Gainesville. Dalton also played Johnson at the event.

Freddy Lara scored the lone Bruin goal on an assist from Yahir Navarro.

The Bruins play Carrollton today at 10 a.m.

Girls Christian Heritage 3, Dalton Academy 0

Andi Bolger scored all three goals as Christian Heritage (1-2) downed Dalton Academy (0-7) 3-0 Friday night.

The win is the first of the season for the Lady Luons.

Dalton Academy plays Darlington on the road Monday at 5:30 p.m., while Christian Heritage plays at Atlanta Classical Academy Tuesday at 5 p.m.
