High school soccer roundup: Dalton Academy erases 2-0 second-half deficit to beat Creek

Mar. 5—Boys Dalton Academy 3, Coahulla Creek 2

Dalton Academy (7-1) stormed back from a 2-0 second-half deficit to defeat Coahulla Creek (5-3-1) 3-2 Tuesday night.

Coahulla Creek scored its second goal to go up 2-0 with 30 minutes to play. Kye Farner scored a Creek goal assisted by Cruz Barcenas, then Anderson Tobar scored.

A Dalton Academy answer, then the equalizer, then the go-ahead goal came in a span of 15 minutes.

Joe Gonzalez scored two of the goals, and Christian Cruz scored the other. Mauricio Guerrero and Jesus Arellano each had an assist.

The win is the first over a Whitfield County public school in program history for the Pumas.

Dalton Academy hosts Gilmer Friday at 7 p.m., while Creek aims to bounce back with a game Thursday at 7 p.m. at Cass.

Northwest Whitfield 9, Sonoraville 0

Northwest Whitfield (3-3-3) shut out Sonoraville (4-2) 9-0 on Tuesday.

Matthew Molina and Fredy Lara both tallied three goals, and Molina added an assist. Connor Stiles, Javier De La Cruz and Giovanny Jimenez each scored a goal, and Stiles added three assists. Chris Tapia had two assists, and Yahir Navarro and Jude Knowles had an assist apiece.

Northwest is at Cedartown on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

North Murray 6, Rockmart 1

North Murray (3-3) poured in five second-half goals to defeat Rockmart (2-4) 6-1 Tuesday.

North Murray led 1-0 at halftime and sent in five in the second half. The Mountaineers get to 3-2 in Region 7-2A play.

Sergio Miranda scored a pair of goals. Anthony Arredondo, Juan Pablo, Aven Cameron and Geovanny Herrera each scored one. Pablo had two assists, and Cameron, Henry Trejo and Ray de Leon each assisted once.

Josue Rodriguez had three saves in net.

North Murray hosts Gordon Central on Friday at 7 p.m.

Southeast Whitfield 4, Cedartown 3

Southeast Whitfield (4-4) fended off Cedartown (4-3) 4-3 in extra time on Tuesday.

After the Raiders entered halftime up 2-1, Cedartown scored a goal in the second half to force overtime. Neither team scored in the first 10-minute frame, but Southeast put in two in the second, while Cedartown scored one.

Nathaniel Hernandez and Joseph Pina each scored two goals for Southeast.

Southeast plays at Ringgold's Heritage on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Model 2, Murray County 1

Murray County (0-5-1) played unbeaten Model (8-0-1) to a one-goal game, but the Indians fell a little short of their first win, falling 2-1.

Murray is now 0-2 in Region 7-2A, losing both games 2-1. Murray lost to Fannin County by the same score.

Murray continues its search for its first win with a home game Friday at 7:30 against Rockmart.

Cass 1, Dalton 0

Dalton (6-2-1) took a rare region defeat when the Catamounts fell 1-0 to Cass (7-1-1) Tuesday night.

The Catamounts played most of the second half down a player. The last time Dalton lost a game in region action was during the 2020 season.

Dalton steps out of Region 7-5A play to compete with fellow 5A power McIntosh on Saturday.

Girls Dalton 10, Cass 0

Dalton (4-3-1) got its second 10-0 win in as many nights as the Lady Cats blanked Cass (3-4) on Tuesday.

Dalton also picked up a 10-0 win over Coahulla Creek Monday.

Melanie Arriaga scored four goals, matching her total from the win over Creek. Aliyah Rosales had two goals, and Ashley Estrada, Jenni Enrique, Kendra Delgado and Stephanie Rivas put in a goal apiece. Rosales, Rivas and Delgado each had two assists, while America Quintero preserved the shut out in net for Dalton.

The Lady Cats play Coahulla Creek on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Southeast Whitfield 1, Cedartown 0

Southeast Whitfield (6-0) stayed unbeaten and started Region 7-4A play with a win with a 1-0 win Tuesday over Cedartown (4-3).

Michelle Morales scored the goal for the Lady Raiders.

Southeast plays at Ringgold's Heritage Thursday at 5 p.m.

Northwest Whitfield 10, Sonoraville 0

Behind Meryl Clark's five goals, Northwest Whitfield (6-2-1) blanked Sonoraville (3-4-1) 10-0 Tuesday night.

Sophia Hargis, Adelyn Martinez, Sofia Ortiz, Jasmin Cortez and Sadie Clark each added a goal. Sadie Clark had three assists, as did Lexi Lyon. Yuli Herreda had two assists, while Cortez and Ortiz both had one.

Northwest plays at Cedartown on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

North Murray 3, Rockmart 2

North Murray (3-2) defeated Rockmart (2-4) 3-2 Tuesday night.

After beating Rockmart for a second straight time this season, the Lady Mountaineers are now 3-2 in Region 7-2A play on the season.

North Murray hosts Gordon Central on Friday at 5 p.m.

Model 9, Murray County 0

Murray County (3-5) fell to Model (9-1) 9-0 Tuesday.

The loss puts Murray at 0-2 in Region 7-2A play.

The Lady Indians host Rockmart on Friday at 5 p.m.
