High school roundup: James's basket lifts Salem boys; Bedford, Pinkerton teams split showdown contests

Feb. 9—Brock James hit a floater to beat the buzzer and give Salem a 54-52 victory over visiting Exeter in a Division I boys basketball game on Friday night. James finished with 10 points. Felix Gonzalez led Salem (6-8) with 14 points. Brady Rogers was Exeter's only double-figures scorer with 17 points. The Blue Hawks dropped to 9-5.

In other action Friday, Jackson Marshall poured in 35 points to lead host Pinkerton Academy to a 91-79 victory over Bedford in a matchup of Division I's top two boys teams. Charlie Ludden added 21 points for the Astros, who improved to 14-1. Bedford, paced by Luke Soden's 25 points, suffered its first loss and dropped to 14-1.

In a Division I girls basketball showdown Friday, Kate Allard scored 19 points to lead host Bedford past Pinkerton 91-54 in a Division I battle of unbeatens. Lyla Stein added 17 points for the Bulldogs (15-0). Lana McCarthy (14 points), Megan Muir (13 points) and Sarah Muir (11 points) also hit double-figures.

Elizabeth Lavoie's 28 points paced the Astros (14-1). Kaylee Dupuis added 12 points, Alexandria White, 11.
