High school roundup: Britton's 29 helps Sackets Harbor handle Copenhagen in girls basketball

Jan. 14—COPENHAGEN — Peyton Britton scored a game-high 29 points as Sackets Harbor's girls basketball team cruised to a 63-25 victory over Copenhagen on Friday night in a Frontier League "D" Division game.

Lily Green contributed 25 points for the Patriots, who improve to 8-2, including 5-2 in the league.

Sackets Harbor built a 20-15 lead by halftime before generating a 24-2 surge in the third quarter to take command.

Madison Cheek scored 12 points to pace the Golden Knights (7-4, 5-3) and Claire Jones totaled 13 rebounds.

WATERTOWN 66, CARTHAGE 29

Haley LaVancha scored 21 points and Samantha Booth recorded a double-double by generating 16 points and hauling in 13 rebounds to propel the Cyclones past the Comets to win an "A-B" Division game in Carthage.

Kimberlie DiLeonardo contributed 13 points for Watertown (3-10, 3-5) against Carthage (1-9, 1-7).

GOUVERNEUR 59, OFA 20

Caitlin Storie led all scorers with 12 points and Courtney Forsythe contributed 10 points to spark the Wildcats past the Blue Devils in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game.

HERMON-DEKALB 72, COLTON-PIERREPONT 24

Olivia Simser scored a game-high 20 points, including burying five 3-pointers, to pace the Demons past the Colts in the first round of the Hermon-DeKalb Tournament.

Hailey Bashaw contributed 10 points for Hermon-DeKalb, which will play Potsdam's in Monday's tournament final.

Potsdam defeated Lyme, 36-33, in the first round of the tournament.

CHATEAUGAY 72, ST. REGIS FALLS 11

Madison McComb scored a game-high 16 points and Kaelyn Morgan posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to spark the Bulldogs to an NAC East Division victory in Chateaugay.

Avery McDonald chipped in with 13 points for Chateaugay.

Also in NAC play, Malone defeated Salmon River, 55-27.

GENERAL BROWN 54, IMMACULATE HEART 25

Maddie Ferris and Kaelyn Tryon each scored 15 points, with Ferris totaling seven rebounds, as the Lions (9-2, 7-0) defeated the Cavaliers (6-7, 4-4) in an "A-B" Division game at Immaculate Heart Central on Saturday.

COPENHAGEN 41, BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 24

Halle Miller scored a game-high 15 points to pace the Golden Knights to victory over the Panthers in a "D" Division game on Saturday in Belleville on Saturday.

Samantha Stokely totaled seven points and seven rebounds and Mackenzie Lee hauled in 10 rebounds for Copenhagen (8-4, 6-3) against Belleville Henderson (3-6, 2-5).

In NAC play on Saturday, Massena defeated Norwood-Norfolk, 68-25.

BOYS BASKETBALL

SANDY CREEK 73, BEAVER RIVER 50

Mason Ennist posted a double-double by scoring 27 points and hauling in 11 rebounds and Hudson Hunt contributed 19 points to spark the Comets past the Beavers to win a "C" Division game in Sandy Creek.

Logan Lando contributed 10 points and made 11 steals and Colton Killiam supplied 10 points for division-leading Sandy Creek (8-2, 7-1).

Kade Schneider scored 14 points to pace Beaver River (3-9, 3-5).

SACKETS HARBOR 57, COPENHAGEN 34

Marcus Castine scored 21 points to lead a balanced effort as the Patriots defeated the Golden Knights in a "D" Division game in Sackets Harbor.

Austin Griner generated 16 points for Sackets Harbor (12-1, 10-0), which built a 20-10 lead through the first quarter en route to building a 31-8 advantage by halftime.

Samuel Carroll generated a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds for Copenhagen (8-4, 6-3) and Caden Miller scored 10 points.

BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 44, LYME 22

Brandon Dodge supplied 24 points to pace the Panthers past the Lakers to win a "D" Division encounter in Chaumont.

Kash Gordinier chipped in with 10 points for Belleville Henderson (7-5, 6-2) against Lyme (2-10, 1-8).

The Panthers led 20-16 at halftime before outscoring the Lakers 23-6 in the second half to pull away for the win.

In NAC play, Brushton-Moira edged Colton-Pierrepont, 37-36, and St. Lawrence Central defeated Edwards-Knox, 63-32 on Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL

SOUTH JEFFERSON 3, LOWVILLE 2

South Jefferson (5-4, 4-3) captured a back-and-forth Frontier League "B" Division match with Lowville 25-23, 24-26, 25-22, 16-25, 15-8 in Adams.

For Lowville (4-5, 4-4), Rubi Zabielowicz provided eight kills and 38 digs. Allison Rozanski recorded 11 kills and Catherine Peer seven. Chloe Zehr led with 18 assists and Kally Runner contributed 14. Abrianna Turck paced the defense with 50 digs.

GENERAL BROWN 3, THOUSAND ISLANDS 0

Adyson Kittle totaled 15 service points and eight digs as the Lions swept the Vikings in a nonleague match played in Clayton on Saturday.

Addyson Starr tallied seven assists and nine digs, Maura Natali contributed nine service points and seven digs and Haley Parker recorded 12 digs for General Brown (4-6), which prevailed, 25-9, 25-8 and 25-23, against Thousand Islands (0-8).

CINCINNATUS 3, SANDY CREEK 2

The Red Lions (10-2) rallied from two sets down to edge the Comets in a nonleague match in Sandy Creek on Saturday, prevailing 20-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 15-2.

Mikayla Glazier served up 28 points, including nine aces, and totaled 26 assists and five digs for the Comets and Krislynn Harlow tallied 22 service points, including five aces, and 13 digs.

Also for Sandy Creek, Phoenicia Hathway recorded 15 service points and 12 kills and Maddie Coe tallied 17 service points and eight digs.

Also on Saturday, Carthage swept South Lewis in a FL interdivisional match, 3-0, winning, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17.

WRESTLING

CARTHAGE SECURES SECOND PLACE

Ayden Downing won by pin in the 116-pound weight class final and Kamdyn Dorchester won by decision in the finals at 285 pounds as Carthage secured a second-place team finish at the Phoenix Mid Winter Classic on Saturday.

Andre Newman (101) and Zeb Stevens (170) also reached the finals for the Comets.

BEAVER RIVER TAKES SECOND

Derek Walseman (116) won by decision to secure an individual title and lead Beaver River to a second-place finish at the Blue Devil Invitational in Camden on Saturday.

Damon Bush (124), Dylan Buckingham (138) and Dominic Roes (190) also reached the finals for the Beavers.

SOUTH LEWIS PLACES THIRD

Matthew Marks won by major decision at 215 points to help pace South Lewis to a third-place finish at the Cazenovia Invitational on Saturday.

Conner Carpenter (124) and Isaac Gibson (170) each won by pin in the finals to secure individual titles for the Falcons.

JEWETT PLACES SECOND

General Brown's Zoey Jewett finished in second place in the 100-pound weight class at the Eastern States Classic girls competition on Friday at Sullivan Community College.

GENERAL BROWN 52, WATERTOWN 23

Dylan Munk (138 pounds), Camden Thomas (170) and Tristan Jarvie (190) each registered wins by fall in less than a minute as General Brown defeated Watertown in a Frontier League match in Dexter on Friday.

Carsyn Ferard (152), Nahjeed Abel (101) and Justin Gerstenschlager (132) also won by fall for the Lions (7-3, 3-2).

Paul Ortega won by pin at 145 for Watertown (1-9, 0-4) and the Cyclones' Michael Roberts recorded a technical fall at 160.

—In boys hockey in the first round of the Massena Tyo Tournament, Lancaster defeated Massena, 5-3, and Ithaca topped Potsdam, 9-2, while Norwood-Norfolk defeated Plattsburgh, 6-4, in nonleague play.

On Saturday, St. Lawrence edged Norwood-Norfolk, 2-1, in NAC play, and Ithaca blanked Massena, 2-0, on the second day of Massena's tournament.

In girls hockey on Friday, Beekmantown bested Potsdam, 4-2, in a nonleague game.
