High school basketball roundup: Northwest boys, Creek girls avenge earlier losses in northern Whitfield rivalry

Jan. 15—Boys Northwest Whitfield 65, Coahulla Creek 52

A pair of rivals from the northern end of Whitfield County split a two-game season series this year, with each team winning in the other's gym.

Northwest Whitfield (13-4) got revenge for an earlier loss to Coahulla Creek (13-5) with a 65-52 win over the Colts on Saturday.

The Bruins jumped out to a 37-19 halftime lead.

Hudson Gray led the way for Northwest with 15. Dakota Blackwell scored 13 and Caden Ramsey had 12.

Chase Ward led the Colts with 14 points, and Cullen Marti scored 11.

Northwest is at Central Friday night at 7:30, while Creek hosts LaFayette Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Darlington 64, Christian Heritage 60

Christian Heritage (15-3) dropped in overtime a test against Darlington (14-4) in Rome on Saturday.

The two teams went into overtime tied at 56, and the Lions fell 64-60. Christian Heritage is ranked third in Class A DII, while Darlington is the second-ranked team in Class A DI.

Jax Abernathy scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Lions. Cash Hare had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Dontae Crowder scored seven and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Christian Heritage hosts Greenforest, the No. 1 team in Class A DII and the defending Region 7-A DII champion, Friday night at 7:30.

Ridgeland 86, Southeast Whitfield 63

Southeast Whitfield (2-16) dropped 86-63 at Ridgeland (10-6) on Saturday.

Southeast trailed 56-46 after three quarters, but a 30-17 fourth quarter allowed Ridgeland to pull away.

The Raiders host Cedartown Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Lumpkin County 40, Murray County 37

Murray County (10-6) fell 40-37 against Lumpkin County (7-10) on Saturday.

Parker Hawkins scored nine for Murray, while Judah Woodall, Joseph Garland and Avery Jones all scored seven.

Murray travels to Gordon Central Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls Coahulla Creek 51, Northwest Whitfield 46

Coahulla Creek (12-5) got revenge for a loss earlier this season to Northwest Whitfield (9-6), beating the Lady Bruins 51-46 at home on Saturday.

Aubree Langley scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds. Shea Poe scored 10 points and grabbed seven boards.

Creek will host LaFayette Friday at 7 p.m. Northwest is at Central-Carrollton Friday at 6 p.m.

Christian Heritage 47, Darlington 35

Christian Heritage (11-8) took down Darlington (9-8) 47-35 in Rome on Saturday.

A 12-2 first quarter got the Lady Lions started strong, and Christian Heritage never looked back.

Christian Heritage was led by 23 points from Carly Bramlett, and Alli Grace Hembree scored seven.

Christian Heritage hosts Greenforest on Friday at 6 p.m.

Southeast Whitfield 47, Ridgeland 45

Southeast Whitfield (6-11) held off Ridgeland (6-11) 47-45 on the road Saturday.

Southeast led 27-9 at halftime and withstood a Ridgeland comeback to win by two.

Johanna Ortiz led the Lady Raiders with 14 points, while Miracle Godoy, Chyann Blevins and Trinity Burse all scored seven.

Southeast will play Cedartown Friday at 6 p.m.

Lumpkin County 54, Murray County 47

Murray County (12-5) had a four-game win streak snapped Saturday with a 54-47 loss to Lumpkin County (6-11).

Miley McClure led Murray with 15, and Bayleigh Winkler and Hadley Dotson each had eight.

The Lady Indians are at Gordon Central Friday at 6 p.m.
