High school basketball roundup: Dalton sweeps Woodland in region play; North Murray teams both earn wins

Jan. 18—Boys Dalton 55, Woodland 47

Dalton (5-11) picked up its first Region 7-5A win of the season Wednesday, defeating Woodland (7-10) 55-47 on the road.

Jermichael Craft led Dalton with 16 points, while Drew Snyder scored 12 and Kobi Cooper put in 11.

Dalton will aim for its next region win Friday night with a home game against Cass set for 8:30.

North Murray 90, Haralson County 36

After dropping two straight Region 7-2A games, North Murray (15-3) stepped emphatically back into the win column with a 90-36 detonation of Haralson County (5-11) on Wednesday night.

North Murray led 24-7 after a quarter and never let up.

Cayce Robinette hit a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 16 points to lead a group of five Mountaineers that scored in double digits. Judson Petty scored 14, Isaiah Morrison scored 12 and J.D. Ellis and Gavin Pittman both scored 11.

North Murray hosts Fannin County Friday night at 8:30.

Model 53, Murray County 43

Murray County (10-7) was downed 53-43 by Model (12-7) in a Region 7-2A game on Wednesday.

Murray led 18-14 after the first quarter, but the Indians' scoring slowed from there. Model took a 28-22 lead into halftime and led 41-32 after three.

Model is 6-1 in the region and is in first place, while Murray falls to 3-3 and is currently in fifth place.

Murray hopes to rebound at Gordon Central Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls Dalton 63, Woodland 22

Dalton (10-6) stayed perfect in Region 7-5A action with a 63-22 road win over Woodland (7-8) on Wednesday.

Dalton plays another region opponent Friday night, when the Lady Catamounts host Cass at 7.

North Murray 48, Haralson County 38

North Murray (11-7) picked up a Region 7-2A win over Haralson County (3-13) Wednesday night, defeating Haralson 48-38.

The win improved North Murray to 3-4 in region play and dropped Haralson to 0-7.

North Murray continues region play Friday night at 7 with a home game against Fannin County.

Model 40, Murray County 39

Murray County (12-6) lost its grip on first place in Region 7-2A when the Lady Indians were downed 40-39 by Model (15-4) on Wednesday.

The loss was Murray's first in region play and puts Model into first place in the region.

The two teams were tied at 38 with under two minutes left, and Model came out on top. Murray erased a 23-11 halftime deficit to nearly steal the game.

Murray County will play at Gordon Central Friday night at 6.
