High school basketball region tournaments: Dalton girls claim Region 7-5A title

Girls Dalton defeats Cartersville to claim Region 7-5A championship

The Dalton High School Lady Catamounts are region champs.

Dalton (18-9) cruised past Cartersville (15-12) 59-35 in the Region 7-5A championship game in Cartersville Friday night to earn a region title and the region's top seed for the Class 5A playoffs.

Gracie Ridley posted a double-double in the championship game with 19 points and 10 steals, and was four rebounds away from a triple-double with six boards. Emma Hefner had 15 points, Kemara Washington had 10 points and six rebounds, and Jolie Wingfield had eight points and eight boards.

Dalton finished with 21 wins in each of the last two seasons, but fell in the region tournament semifinals in both campaigns and had to hit the road for the first round of the playoffs. This season, after entering the region tournament as the top seed, Dalton wins the region and will get to host a first-round game in the Class 5A playoffs next week.

Coahulla Creek 47,

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 35

Coahulla Creek (18-8) took down Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (14-9) 47-35 in the third-place game of the Region 6-3A tournament Friday night, earning the region's third seed for the upcoming Class 3A playoffs.

Lilah Brooker led Creek with 17 points.

The Lady Colts will have to hit the road for the first round of the playoffs. They'll travel to the second-seeded team in Region 7-3A.

Boys Coahulla Creek 57, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 50

Coahulla Creek (19-8) defeated Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (9-17) 57-50 Friday night in the third place game in the Region 6-3A tournament at Adairsville.

The Colts grab the third seed in the region for the upcoming Class 3A playoffs and will have to go on the road in the first round.

Teagan Houser had 19 to lead Creek. Cullen Marti scored 18, and Carter Quarles put in 12.

Hiram 84, Dalton 59

Dalton (13-14) fell 84-59 to Hiram (16-9) Friday night in the third-place game in the Region 7-5A tournament.

The game was tied at half, but Hiram pulled away in the third. Dalton will be the fourth seed in the region and will play a road game in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

CJ Weaver led Dalton with 15. Kobi Cooper scored 14 and Drew Snyder had 12.

Fannin County 57, North Murray 54

North Murray (19-7) was defeated 57-54 in the third place game of the Region 7-2A tournament by Fannin County (15-12) Friday night at Murray County.

The Mountaineers, despite winning 19 games this season, will be the fourth seed in a tough Region 7-2A and will play on the road to start the Class 2A playoffs.
