High school baseball roundup: Northwest blanks Southeast, Corn and Caylor lead Christian Heritage to win

Mar. 19—Northwest Whitfield 12, Southeast Whitfield 0

Northwest Whitfield (13-2) blanked Southeast Whitfield (5-14) 12-0 Tuesday.

Northwest scored four runs in each of the second, third and fifth innings, and Bruin pitcher Sam Crossen struck out nine and allowed only two hits in the five inning game.

Deakon Edwards finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Northwest. Hank Harrison and Hank Scruggs each had two RBIs, and Austin Cooley doubled.

Noah Singleton and Nate Seay each picked up a hit for Southeast.

The Bruins and Raiders play games two and three of the three-game series on Thursday starting at 5 p.m. in Tunnel Hill.

Christian Heritage 13, Mt. Zion 1

Christian Heritage (3-9) responded to a 13-3 loss to Mt. Zion (11-3) by trouncing the Eagles 13-1 on Monday.

Pitcher Sawyer Corn held a strong Mt. Zion offense to one run by allowing just four hits and striking out nine in the five-inning game.

After that lone run tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third, Christian Heritage exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the inning.

Aiden Caylor powered the Lion bats, going 3-for-3 with a homer, a double and three RBIs. Corn also shined at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Jackson Locke also doubled while finishing 2-for-2. Levi Holland also had a multi-hit game.

The Lions travel to Bowdon tonight at 6.

Cass 5, Dalton 4

Dalton (5-8) was edged 5-4 by Cass (9-6) Tuesday night.

Cass pushed out to a 4-0 lead, but Dalton cut it to 4-3 after scoring two runs in the sixth. Cass scored another in the seventh. Dalton scored one run to make it 5-4, but couldn't complete a comeback.

Conrad Coleman belted a home run and finished 2-for-4 for Dalton. Jose Orrelanes doubled and had an RBI. Connor Stockard and Jose Santiago both had an RBI.

Scottie Miller allowed three hits and had 10 strikeouts in six innings on the mound for Dalton.

Gordon Lee 11, Coahulla Creek 0

Coahulla Creek (5-6) was downed 11-0 by Gordon Lee (7-8) Tuesday night.

The Colts were held to three hits in the four-inning game. Connor Chastain went 2-for-3, and Asher Moore had the other hit.

Creek and Region 6-3A opponent Gordon Lee play again Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Rockmart 13, Murray County 0

Rockmart (10-6) defeated Murray County (2-10) 13-0 on Tuesday.

Murray was held to three hits, but two of them were doubles. Braxton Vineyard and Aidan McClure both hit doubles for the Indians.

The two teams play games two and three of the Region 7-2A series on Friday starting at 5:30 p.m.

Model 13, North Murray 0

North Murray (4-11) dropped a game against Model (10-4) 13-0 Tuesday.

Joel Mallett went 2-for-2 for North Murray, and Anthony Skojac had a hit.

North Murray plays at Fannin County tonight at 5:30.
