High school baseball roundup: Locke's walk-off single delivers Christian Heritage win

Mar. 12—Christian Heritage 3, LaFayette 2

Christian Heritage (2-8) stopped a seven-game skid in walk-off fashion with a 3-2 win over LaFayette (6-6) Tuesday.

Christian Heritage led 2-0 entering the seventh, but LaFayette tied it in the top of the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, David Person and Aiden Caylor walked, and Levi Holland bunted to get to first. A Jackson Locke single scored Person and gave the Lions the win.

Locke's walk-off winner was the capper on a night he went 3-for-4. Caylor went 2-for-2 with a double, and Holland was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Sawyer Corn pitched five innings for Christian Heritage, allowing just two hits and striking out eight. Holland finished the final two innings, allowing two hits.

Christian Heritage plays at Mt. Zion Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Northwest Whitfield 9, Sonoraville 7

Northwest Whitfield (10-2) defeated Sonoraville (4-5) 9-7 Tuesday for the Bruins' first Region 7-4A win of the year.

After going the first three innings without a run, Northwest exploded for six in the fourth and three in the sixth.

That built a 9-1 Northwest lead, and the Bruins hung on despite six unanswered runs over the final two innings by Sonoraville.

Cameron Collins turned in a big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 2with a triple and two RBIs. Hank Harrison was 2-for-3 with a trio of RBIs. Trent Hixson and Deakon Edwards both doubled, and Hank Scruggs and Gavin Nuckolls both drove in a run.

Sam Crossen went six innings on the mound for Northwest, striking out 10. Kaylor Stancill closed the game out.

The two teams play again Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Sonoraville.

Murray County 7, Fannin County 2

Murray County (2-7) defeated Fannin County (3-8-1) 7-2 on Tuesday.

Tristyn Perry doubled and had three RBIs for Murray. Trent Childers had a double and a pair of RBIs. Braxton Vineyard brought in a run.

Perry was also credited as the winning pitcher, tossing four innings and striking out seven. Vineyard allowed one hit in his three innings on the mound.

Murray and Fannin play again Friday at 5 p.m.

Woodland 13, Dalton 1

Dalton (4-6) dropped a Tuesday game against Woodland (8-3) 13-1.

Woodland scored five in the first, a pair in the second and six in the third.

Dalton got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fifth, driven in by a Ledge Land single, but the game ended after five.

Woodland allowed just four Dalton hits while running up 14 of its own.

The two Region 7-5A opponents play again on Thursday at 5:55 p.m.

Heritage 10, Southeast Whitfield 0 Heritage 16, Southeast Whitfield 1

Southeast Whitfield (3-12) dropped both in a doubleheader Tuesday against Heritage (8-3).

Southeast fell 10-0 in the first and 16-1 in the second game.

Grant McArthur and Brayden Lay both had two hits in the first game, and McArthur doubled. Southeast was held to just two hits in the second game, with McArthur and Nate Seay both doubling.

Southeast and Heritage play Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
