High school baseball roundup: Cooley's walk-off lifts Northwest over North Murray; Creek sweeps series with Southeast

Coahulla Creek (3-0) breezed by Southeast Whitfield (1-2) in both games of a Wednesday-Thursday series, winning Wednesday 16-1 and taking Thursday's game 15-0.

In Wednesday's game, Creek's Luke Swiney and Isaiah Hernandez both drove in four RBIs. Hernandez was 2-for-4 and homered, and Swiney was 2-for-3 and tripled. Fernando Hernandez doubled. Creek pitchers Tyler Douglas and Brody Howell combined to allow one Southeast hit in the four-inning game.

Eli Couch got that hit, and Nate Seay got the RBI on the lone Raider run.

Thursday's game ended after just three innings and without a Southeast hit as Creek scored seven in the first, five in the second and three in the third.

Connor Chastain piled up four RBIs this time around, going 3-for-3 with a double. Koby Womac had three RBIs, and Colton Simpkins had two. Simpkins, Tay Brogdon and Isaiah Hernandez also doubled, and Douglas tripled.

Easton Parker and Freedom Johnson combined for the no-hit shutout from the mound for Creek.

Creek plays at Murray County tonight at 5:30, while Southeast hosts Coosa at the same time.

Northwest Whitfield 3, North Murray 2

Thanks to a walk-off RBI single from Austin Cooley, Northwest Whitfield (4-1) defeated North Murray (2-5) 3-2 in nine innings Thursday night.

Cooley's hit delivered Northwest the win in the bottom of the ninth after two extra frames were needed. North Murray went ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning, and Northwest tied it in the bottom of the sixth.

Cameron Collins and Deakon Edwards also drove in runs for Northwest, while Hank Scruggs was 2-for-3 and Eli Speights had a double.

Kaylor Stancill was Northwest's winning pitcher, striking out seven and allowing three hits and no runs while tossing the last four innings. Caden Ramsey struck out eight while pitching five innings.

Alex Brown had an RBI for North Murray. Caden Painter and Landon Atkins both went 2-for-3 with a double, and Brylan Bond also doubled.

North Murray plays a doubleheader with Southeast Whitfield Saturday starting at noon, while Northwest is back in action tonight against Gordon Lee at 5.

Woodland 6, Christian Heritage 0

Christian Heritage (1-4) was blanked 6-0 by Woodland (4-2) Wednesday.

In the loss, David Person and Aiden Caylor both went 2-for-3, while Person and Junior Castelo doubled.

Christian Heritage plays Richmond Hill on Saturday at 11 a.m.

South Paulding 4, Dalton 3

Dalton (1-3) dropped a game to South Paulding (3-3) 4-3 Wednesday night.

Dalton led 3-0 after three innings, but South Paulding tied the game in the fourth and brought in the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Asher Renfroe finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Dalton, and Jose Santiago drove in the other run. Charles Chapelle got the only other Dalton hit on a night that the Catamounts were held to three.

Dalton hosts Lumpkin County tonight at 6.

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 10, Murray County 0

Murray County (0-4) was defeated 10-0 Thursday by Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (3-2).

Trent Childers led the Murray bats in the loss, hitting a double.

Murray plays Coahulla Creek at home tonight at 5:30.
