HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Pirates earn measure of revenge with win over Model

Apr. 19—The Pirates (8-6) didn't have a hit when they faced 44th District rival Model Laboratory on April 3 at Eastern Kentucky.

And as a result, they were handed a humbling 10-0, five-inning loss.

Two weeks later, the teams met again.

And the outcome was very much different.

Sophomore Nathan Prophitt hit a two-run homer and earned the complete-game victory as Berea Community topped the Patriots (14-4) on Wednesday at Berea City Park. Cam Thompson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice.

"It was nice to bring them to our place and take them down," Prophitt said.

Berea took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a two-run homer from Prophitt. The Pirates got two more runs in the fifth.

Model, though, battled back.

The Patriots got on the board with a run in the sixth, then had the tying run on base in the seventh.

"I got in my own head a little bit," Prophitt said of the final inning. "I was trying to throw too hard. I got a little wild. I just had to dial it down and throw it in the zone."

Prophitt allowed six hits, one earned run and four walks, with nine strikeouts.

Model starter Garrett Holloway was solid as well. He went the distance and allowed allowed six hits, three earned runs and one walk, with seven strikeouts.

Berea's Blake King was 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored once. Tommie Banderman was 1-for-3 with a double. Preston Sweet was 1-for-3 and Brandon Parker scored a run.

Model's Beckett Parker-Noblitt was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and scored once. Kayden Wade was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored once. Case Caldwell was 1-for-2. Matthew Gorbett was 1-for-3 and Sai Bhula scored twice.

Pirates win again

The Pirates pushed their winning streak to four games with a 9-3 win over Jackson County (5-14) on Thursday in Berea.

Tommie Banderman was 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored twice. Nathan Prophitt was 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored twice. Cam Thompson was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored twice.

Preston Sweet and Joseph Cobb were each 1-for-4 with two RBI. Blake King and Braydon Mink each walked and scored once.

Brandon Parker also scored a run.

Thompson went the distance on the mound, allowing eight hits and two runs with six strikeouts.

Berea is set to return to action today at home against Lee County.

Model snaps skid

The Patriots (14-4) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 11-1 six-inning win over Calvary Christian (7-10) on Thursday in Richmond.

Beckett Parker-Noblitt was 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored twice. Kayden Wade was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored twice. Garrett Holloway was 2-for-4 with two RBI and scored a run.

Matthew Gorbett went the distance on the mound. He allowed six hits, one unearned and had six strikeouts.

Kellen Burchett was 1-for-1 with three RBI and a walk. Conner Sayre was 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Chase Lowery was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored a run.

Sai Bhula scored twice.

Model is set to return to action Saturday at Morgan County.
