High Point wins, Fleetwood and Muhlenberg fall in first round of PIAA boys basketball playoffs

Mar. 9—Selinsgrove 57, Muhlenberg 49

Muhlenberg's season came to an end at Selinsgrove on Friday night in the first round of the PIAA Class 5A boys basketball playoffs.

The Muhls (16-12), the seventh-place team from District 3, trailed the Seals (18-7), the District 4 champions, 27-18 at halftime.

Senior Alex Collado scored a team-high 16 points for Muhlenberg. Junior Shermar Killen had 15 points for the Muhls.

Muhlenberg outscored Selinsgrove 17-10 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 37-35 heading into the fourth, but could not complete the comeback.

Scranton Prep 79, Fleetwood 53

Fleetwood fell to Scranton Prep in the first round of the PIAA Class 4A boys basketball playoffs at Scranton on Friday night.

Senior Aiden Soumas scored a team-high 16 points for the Tigers (20-6), the fourth-place team from District 3. The Cavaliers (17-9), the District 2 champions, outscored Fleetwood 22-14 in the second quarter to take a 36-26 lead at the half.

With the loss, Tigers coach Terry Sitler finishes his 12-year stint at Fleetwood with an overall record of 264-294. Last year, he guided the Tigers to the PIAA Tournament for the first time since 1990.

Fleetwood seniors Liam Hilburt and Nate Herb each finished the game with 10 points.

High Point Baptist 66, Chester Charter Scholars 46

High Point defeated Chester Charter Scholars in a PIAA Class 1A first-round matchup Friday night at King of Prussia.

The Eagles (19-7), the third-place team from District 3, will take on Freeland MMI (15-10), the District 2 runner-up, in the second round on Tuesday at a time and site to be determined. Freeland MMI beat Galeton 61-51 in the first round on Friday night.
