Bill Belichick got off the Patriots plane on Monday wearing a black fedora in the Minneapolis cold.
For a man who has set a hoodie as his ceiling of high fashion, it was a stylish look that spurred no shortage of jokes from the Twittersphere.
But while you can fill the comments below with jokes about the man in the black hat, there was a sentimental reason behind Belichick’s choice of headwear.
“That was my dad’s hat so I thought I’d just toss it on,” Belichick said. “I felt good about wearing it.”
Steve Belichick, a former NFL player and college coach, died in 2005 after seeing his son win the Super Bowl three times. Bill has returned to the game five times since, so it’s nice that he’s still able to bring a piece of his father along.
Belichick being Belichick, he also pointed out that the hat served a practical purpose.
“Minnesota’s a good place to have a hat, so it did the trick,” he said.
