ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (AP) -- Shanquan Hemphill scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Green Bay held on late to edge Northern Illinois 85-83 on Wednesday night.
Hemphill's dunk to close the first half gave Green Bay a 47-44 edge but the Huskies (4-3) went ahead 58-56 early in the second half on a Dante Thorpe layup. Northern Illinois' shooting fell off after that, allowing Manny Patterson's jumper to put the Phoenix back on top 60-58 and a Hemphill layup stretched it to 76-61 with just under six minutes to play. Green Bay led 82-74 with 37 seconds left when a late rally by the Huskies cut it to the final score.
Eugene German scored a career-high 33 points for Northern Illinois. Thorpe and Levi Bradley each finished with 13.
