Heat’s Haywood Highsmith unhurt but involved in serious auto accident with injuries

MIAMI — Haywood Highsmith was involved in a auto accident after Tuesday night’s victory over the Orlando Magic at Kaseya Center that led to injuries to others but not the Miami Heat forward.

In the wake of the car crash, the Heat issued the following statement Wednesday, shortly before the Heat hosted the San Antonio Spurs.

“We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game. Highsmith is listed as out for tonight’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to Personal Reasons.

“Our hearts go out to those who were injured.

“We will have no further comment at this time.”

Highsmith, who had been starting for the Heat, played only mop-up minutes Tuesday against the Magic.

South Florida media personality Andy Slater posted Wednesday on his X account, “Miami Heat’s Haywood Highsmith hit a person helping another driver stuck in the middle of the road on Tuesday night, according to a senior law-enforcement source. The man who was hit is in critical condition and suffered a partial amputation of his leg, I’m told.”
